RUNNING COST
What the electric premium actually costs you
Pick a Chinese new-energy car and a petrol car of the same class. The calculator charges both for energy, purchase tax, servicing, insurance, tyres and resale, then shows the year the cheaper running cost repays the higher sticker price.

Assumptions used
- Purchase tax: official rule · 5% of the VAT-exclusive price, relief capped at ¥15,000
- Charging at home: editorial estimate · ¥0.55 home–¥1.45/kWh
- Petrol price (CNY/L): reference price · 92-octane, NDRC national reference
- Insurance / Resale value: editorial estimate · replacement-value model
What this leaves out
Finance interest, charging hardware, parking, tolls, roadside assistance, repairs outside the service schedule and any local subsidy. Insurance and resale are editorial estimates, not quotes.
This is a model, not a quote. Change the inputs to match how you actually drive and charge.
How the number is built
How the number is built
- Energy uses the captured kWh/100 km and L/100 km figures from each car's config sheet. Plug-in hybrids are charged on their charge-sustaining petrol figure wherever the sheet publishes one.
- Purchase tax follows the 2026–2027 rule for new-energy cars: half the 10% rate, relief capped at ¥15,000 per vehicle. Petrol cars pay the full 10%.
- Insurance, servicing and resale are stated estimates that you can see, not quotes. The point is to show the shape of the trade-off, not to predict your invoice.
