01

MONA grows up, and gains an engine

The L05 was unveiled in presale on 15 October 2026 and launched on 29 October, with Chinese deliveries beginning on 1 November. It is the third MONA model, following the M03 saloon and the L03, and it is the first to offer a range extender alongside a battery-electric version. Guide prices run from RMB 144,800 to RMB 176,800, with a limited-time launch price from RMB 139,800 for buyers who place a RMB 5,000 deposit by 15 December.

The positioning is deliberate. The L03 established MONA as a value-focused line; the L05 adds size, a family-oriented body and a second powertrain without leaving the same price neighbourhood. Whether that works for a buyer depends on which of the six trims they actually need, because the range and equipment differ by version.

02

Range in the right units

The battery-electric versions use 58.2 kWh or 71.1 kWh LFP packs, with CLTC ratings of 560 km, 535 km and 635 km depending on trim. The range-extender pairs a 37.2 kWh battery with a 1.5-litre engine and a 42-litre tank, for 310 km of electric range and a 1,310 km combined CLTC figure. Xpeng also quotes 5.26 L/100 km on the WLTC cycle with the battery depleted.

Those numbers answer different questions. The 310 km figure is electric-only range under CLTC; the 1,310 km figure includes petrol. The 5.26 L/100 km figure is WLTC and describes a depleted-battery condition, not the car’s normal electric operation. None of these should be converted into another cycle, and a buyer who cannot charge regularly should focus on the fuel figure rather than the combined headline.

03

Six trims and two compute tiers

The L05 spans six trims across both powertrains. Max versions use a single Turing chip rated at 750 TOPS and a “VLA Lite” assistance stack; Ultra SE versions add a second chip for 1,500 TOPS and the full VLA 2.0 model. The cabin centres on a 17.3-inch screen and a 26.8-inch head-up display.

Compute figures are not a substitute for a demonstration. The useful questions are which assistance functions are enabled at delivery in the buyer’s market, what the driver remains responsible for, and whether a promised function depends on a later software release. This dossier does not treat a TOPS number as evidence that a system performs well.

04

Packaging and charging

The L05 measures 4,870 mm long with a 2,940 mm wheelbase. It offers 702 litres of boot space and, on battery-electric versions, a 102-litre front compartment. The charging system is 3C: Xpeng quotes 10–80% in 19.1 minutes for the BEV and 14.7 minutes for the EREV, with 6 kW vehicle-to-load output.

The front compartment is only available on the BEV, so a buyer comparing the two powertrains should not assume identical luggage capacity. Charging times are manufacturer claims under favourable conditions; the charger’s own output and the battery’s temperature will change the real result.

05

Built for 65 markets from the start

Xpeng says the L05 was developed in both left- and right-hand-drive form and that global shipments began on 26 October, before Chinese deliveries. The company has referred to 65 planned markets. That is a statement of intent and a logistics milestone, not proof that a given country has a dealer, a price or a service network today.

For an overseas buyer, the practical questions remain local: which version is homologated, what the written warranty covers, where high-voltage repairs are performed and whether the assistance features are enabled in that market. Our model dossiers separate the Chinese specification from the export version for exactly this reason.

06

What is not confirmed

There is no monthly sales figure because deliveries had not started when this page was checked. Real-world range-extender consumption, the cost of servicing the two powertrains and the market-by-market overseas timeline are also unresolved. No official drag coefficient has been published. Xpeng’s September total of 41,256 vehicles describes the company, not the L05.

A buyer should treat the launch price as time-limited and confirm the exact trim, battery, assistance hardware and local warranty in writing before ordering.
