BYD Seal 08 vs Mercedes S-Class: a price mismatch, not a class mismatch
The Seal 08 is a 5.15 m electric sedan from ¥196,900. The S-Class is a 5.29 m limousine from ¥962,600. The useful comparison is what the extra money buys, not which car is 'better'.

The price gap is five times, not ten percent
The Seal 08 905 km trim is ¥216,900. The S 450 L 4MATIC is around ¥1,282,600. The Mercedes costs nearly six times as much. That gap buys a longer wheelbase, a more powerful six-cylinder engine, a rear cabin designed for chauffeur use and a brand with a different social meaning.
It does not buy five times the electric range. The Seal 08's 905 km CLTC is far beyond the S-Class's electric-only capability — the S 450 L is a mild hybrid with no meaningful EV range.
What the S-Class does better
The S-Class is 140 mm longer and has a 186 mm longer wheelbase. Its rear cabin, ride isolation, seat massage and material quality are in a different league. The 3.0T I6 and 9AT deliver a kind of smoothness that a single-motor EV does not attempt.
The Seal 08 counters with 320 kW, 4.9 seconds, a flat floor and a lower centre of gravity. It is quicker and quieter at low speed, but it is not a limousine.
The Chinese car's real advantage
The Seal 08's advantage is not prestige. It is the cost of electric driving, the 905 km CLTC buffer, the 800V-class charging on higher trims and a cabin full of features at a price where the S-Class offers options.
For a family buyer who wants a large, fast, long-range electric sedan, the Seal 08 is a rational purchase. For a buyer who needs rear-seat presence, the S-Class is not replaceable by a cheaper EV.
What the table cannot settle
The S-Class's resale, service costs and social signal are not in the rows. The Seal 08's resale, insurance and long-term battery health are not either. The comparison is deliberately a price mismatch: it shows how much electric range and acceleration you can buy for a fraction of the money, and what you give up.
Both are L2. Neither is a chauffeur-driven autonomous car.
